Dear Prospective Renter,

For nine, wonderful years this house was our everything. After four years as a married couple and with our 20-month old daughter in tow, we moved to Maplewood. We thrived in suburban life in a way former city dwellers don’t always do. In those nine years, our family grew to include two daughters and by year eight, two cats. 106 Orchard was filled with such joy and love, it was hard to say goodbye.

The house was party-central for all holidays, birthdays and countless game nights with friends. Its spacious and open kitchen was always the gathering place in the home. It’s truly a chef’s dream kitchen! We made so many memories that we treasure: our girls running up and down the stairs countless times and performed amazing shows for us in our living room. Upstairs, the bedrooms have thick walls but are close to each other for quick intervention during a child’s bad dream and cry for help. The proximity of the rooms to each other also made the tooth fairy’s job that much easier (so we  imagine).

Our daughters went to preschool at the YMCA right off of Parker Avenue. It was a great community of parents and educators. Our daughters flourished there . They then went to Marshall Elementary (K-2) and then Jefferson Elementary (3-5). Both were excellent experiences for them. If you are a commuter, you will be happy to know that you are a three-minute walk to the Jitney stop to catch a shuttle to the train station in downtown Maplewood. It’s on Orchard just the other side of Parker Avenue.

It’s a quiet neighborhood with kind and friendly people all around! The houses are spaced far enough away to keep your privacy but close enough to strike up a friendly conversation over weekend yard work or walking a friendly dog. These are the kind of neighbors who will keep their eyes open if they know you are out of town. We even have a yearly summer block party.

106 Orchard has a beautiful backyard, big enough for us to really enjoy yet manageable in its maintenance. We had our fair share of outdoor parties and summer barbecues. We built snowmen in the winter and in the summer we watched our kids frolic, running through sprinklers and basking in inflatable swimming pools. We caught fireflies, held gold fish funerals and witnessed many full moons and even two “super moons!” One evening, a month before we were planning to move back to our hometown in Michigan, our dear friends and neighbors across the street came to the door and exclaimed, “You’ve got to see this!” We walked across the street and saw a double rainbow directly over our house. The dreams that we dared to dream in this house, truly did come true.
