LETTER TO FUTURE OWNER

Dear Future Homeowners of 158 Academy Street,

You are going to make such wonderful memories in this sweet home! When we moved from Brooklyn to South Orange over a decade ago, we were newlyweds excited to find a house so close to the city that allowed us to enjoy the “best of both worlds”. In the years since, we have built a family and a community of neighbors and colleagues here that we think might not have been possible anywhere else, all while easily maintaining careers and friends in NYC. Door-to-door, our commute to midtown actually turned out to be shorter from 158 Academy than it was from Cobble Hill, Brooklyn!

Living so close to the town center, we’ve loved taking advantage of everything the village has to offer with just a short walk. Head out the front door and in a few blocks you can be at any number of restaurants, movies or theater at SOPAC, the pool, or the sledding hill. It’s an easy stroll to the annual Seton Village food truck fair, summer concerts, and movies at Floods Hill, art exhibits at The Baird, adult night at the pool, or any number of other awesome town events.

You will also enjoy relaxing at home on the front porch or grilling on the back patio. We had fun upgrading the kitchen with conveniences like the garbage disposal and quartz countertops. When you have guests over, you’ll appreciate having an open flow in the downstairs area and the comfort of a powder room right off the kitchen. We like that all the bedrooms and full bath are on the upper level for additional privacy (and when our kids went to bed, the party could continue downstairs without disturbing them!). Over the years, we made different uses of the front bedroom – it’s been a guest room, a playroom, and a TV lounge. Since the closet is so big, it worked as an office and then a baby-changing room.

Coming from the city and juggling jobs and family, we really appreciate how easy the landscaping at the house is to maintain while still lovely to look at and with plenty to do for those times we wanted to play in the garden. The daffodils pop up right as winter turns to spring and then the hydrangeas and lavender bloom as the weather warms toward summer. With barely any mowing or watering to do, we could enjoy the outdoors without the hassle of constant upkeep.

We are sorry to say goodbye to this home but excited that someone else will get to enjoy all the house has to offer, along with the perks of being so close to the village.

Best wishes!
