We have lived in and loved this house for the past 7 years. We bought the house with a 20 month old and a second baby on the way. Now 7 years later, we have a child at Jefferson, one at Marshall and a third in pre-school. We truly believe no other town (except maybe South Orange) can match the remarkable inclusiveness and sense of community that we have here in Maplewood!
When we first looked at 19 Evergreen Place, we were immediately struck by the beauty of the “bones” of the house – the arched doorways, the natural light, the hardwood floors, the French doors, and built-ins. Over the years, we have enhanced the house by finishing the attic (2012) and the basement (2015), creating an inviting backyard (2011) and updating the kitchen (2017), but we have always tried to maintain the character and personality of the house.
We use the third floor as our master suite with his and her closets and en-suite bath. We call it our “oasis,” as so much of our lives are dominated by the children, and this is our little escape. But it could also be easily used as a guest room, au pair suite or office with the master on the second floor. We especially love the screened-in porch and deck. Most summer evenings and weekends you will find us eating or relaxing out there enjoying the warm weather. The bright and open finished basement is a great space for a kids playroom, den or man-cave alike, and takes the dread out of doing the laundry.
Lastly, you won’t find a better or friendlier neighborhood. Colonial Terrace is always teaming with kids riding bikes and neighbors hanging out and catching up. Plus, it’s an easy walk to the village, trains, and schools.
We hope you enjoy 19 Evergreen Place as much as we have!
