Dear Prospective Buyer,

There was a time I dreamed of nothing more than living in NYC. It turned out to be everything I imagined … but as it often does, life changes. I got married. We talked about children. We needed more space. And try as we did, neither of us could envision staying in our fifth-floor walkup, carrying groceries in one arm and a baby in the other.

Money magazine had just called Maplewood one of the 10 best places to live in America. But still, the prospect of life in the suburbs seemed so daunting. We’d need more furniture. And a lawnmower! And painting supplies. We stood back in Home Depot and wondered what all those tools did.

But from the moment we saw the bar in the basement of 19 Wellesley Road – where we’ve held Oktoberfest celebrations every year since – we knew we were standing in what was meant to be our home.

Since then, we’ve welcomed a son, then a daughter (plus a puppy and kitten). They each lost their first tooth in this house and their training wheels right outside. They’ve found fairy houses and forts in the South Mountain Reservation, as we’ve discovered treasures hidden inside our walls and welcomed new friends into our lives.

They are our neighbors, fellow commuters, school parents and teachers, coaches, work-out buddies, and town volunteers. There is Pete at the Parkwood Diner, who keeps a secret stash of lollipops for the kids, and Maplewood Stationers in the village, who offer treats to each dog who stops by. Plus countless local business that sell wine, cupcakes, and every type of ethnic food imaginable – all within a short walk from our front door.

Every year, there is a magical moment that sums up our life in Maplewood. It’s just at dusk on Halloween, as what seems like hundreds of children are criss-crossing the streets with laughter. And what’s left of the sun casts a dream-like haze as far as anyone can see. With dads dressed up as gorillas greeting kids at the door, and moms carefully holding the littlest of hands, I take a deep breath and think of how lucky we are.

Now as life changes again and our family heads West for our next adventure, we couldn’t be happier that you’ve found yourself here. We hope you’ll make as many memories as we have, sprinkled with wonder, leaving your mark in history in this incredible home!

Best Wishes,
