Dear Future Homeowner of 36 Highland Avenue,
We fell in love with this house from the moment that we stepped inside and have loved it ever since. We immediately fell in love with the beamed cathedral ceiling in the living room, the second floor balcony overlooking the living room, the original sunroom off the living room, the expansive deck viewed through the Pella French doors and the completely unique artisanal Kohler sinks in the kitchen. And that is just the ground floor. We moved to Maplewood for the schools and to have a reasonable commute to work. Our daughter, attended the schools here from kindergarten through 12th grade and is now a freshman at Boston University. We love the fact that the school population was quite diverse and that the academic program was rigorous. Our daughter got a great education from the South Orange/Maplewood School District and made honor roll every quarter since middle school. She was very active in the athletic program and arts curriculum, playing the violin from 5th grade through 12th grade. We were delighted that her “prom group” and friends included students of all ethnicities, religious backgrounds, and sexual preferences. We hoped that we would find a community as diverse, dynamic and welcoming as Maplewood turned out to be. Each of our commutes to work is about a half an hour, one to Staten Island and one to Jersey City. When one of our jobs required us to work some days in Manhattan, it was great to know that the commute from our front door to Penn Station, NY was less than one hour with taking the community jitney to the Maplewood train station, New Jersey transit to Penn Station. Our neighbors were warm and welcoming from the day we moved in and remain so today. We hope you are as happy in this house as we have been for the last 14 years.
