Looking for a Haunted House in Maplewood? The Vanessa Pollock Team has just the place for you. Saturday, October 30, from 4:00 to 9:00 pm The Woodland is holding its first ever Halloween Extravaganza to promote local Special Effects Make-Up Artists.
The event is being organized by long-time Maplewood resident, Scott Donachie whose 12-year-old daughter Bonney will be debuting her extraordinary skills as a make-up artist. Some of Bonney’s fascination with the art of special effects make-up is credited to her mother, graphic artist, Rachael Cronin. The remaining credit goes to zombies and contestants of The Walking Dead, Shaun of the Dead, Hellraiser and Face-Off.
While some kids practice holding a high C, or dribbling, Bonney practices making herself green and scarred. Her goal is to work in Hollywood. “Some people are shocked by the photos she sends me,” says Scott. But the proud father explains, “Bonney taught herself how to use the make-up by watching You-Tube videos”. This youthful ambition and initiative is exactly what drew The Vanessa Pollock Team to Scott’s event. Vanessa’s Music Initiative enables young artists with musical talents to reach their goals beyond their means. Scott said he heard from three different neighbors that he should contact Vanessa.
“I am grateful to sponsor another aspiring local artist,” says Vanessa, of Bonney Donachie, “I hope the event is a success and becomes a new tradition in Maplewood.”
Bonney will be accompanied by professional artist Dena Zombie who is most well-known for organizing the Asbury Park Zombie Walk, the absolute largest zombie walk on record. Dena and Bonney can turn you into a monster of your choice – in about 5 minutes. You can also dance to the tunes of DJ Jimmy and a live local band, and compete for best costume. Prizes will be awarded.
Most importantly, for those of you who remember the Old Haunted House at the Women’s Club of years ago, there will be a new Haunted House – mildly scary. Scott says “No one will chase you, or pop out from behind a chair.”
